Resetting the file association for importing OFX or QIF statements

If you need to reassign the OFX file extension to use Microsoft Money (for example, it was assigned to Quicken and then you uninstalled Quicken), then you can follow the procedure below to reset the association to what it was before Microsoft Money was installed.

Go to Windows Explorer and follow the following steps.
  1. Choose Tools, Folder Options, then File Types
  2. Scroll down and find the OFX entry (if you're using OFX)
  3. Select Advanced
  4. Check the 'Confirm open after download' option.
  5. Select the 'open' action
  6. Press 'edit'
  7. Check that "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005\MNYCoreFiles\mnyimprt.exe" %1 is the application used and use DDE is checked. (See below for a screenshot of this window).
If you have Money 2006, then change the 2005 to 2006. If you have a Money installed in a non-standard directory, then you will need to change the path to the 'mnyimprt.exe' program.
Advanced extension settings for OFX

The only difference between my OFX and QIF entries is that the 'confirm open after download' is selected on QIF, but that's a personal choice for me. If this is not selected, Money should grab the download automatically without prompt. If the above procedure doesn't work, a reinstall of MS Money usually does.
