Updating stocks and investment prices from older versions (pre 2002) no longer works

Microsoft introduced a policy of disabling online functions from Money 2003 (US) and Money 2005 for other versions, typically this policy allows the product to download stock and investment prices for 2 to 3 years. In older versions though, stock and investment quotes have continued to work for a long time.

When Microsoft make changes to MSN Money, then sometimes the ability to download stock prices from older versions ceases to work. If this does happen, and the product is well beyond the support lifecycle (see Article 89), then it is unlikely to be fixed.

In the summer of 2004, MSN Money 14 came online, and this caused the stock quotes for Money 97 to cease working. On 20th May 2005, MSN Money 15 was brought online, and this stopped stock prices for Money 98. There have been some reports of problems with indices in 99/2000/2001 versions in the UK, this is likely caused by the same update. If you're wanting a workaround for the FTSE 100, then see Article 223.

Microsoft's suggestion would be to update - whether you do is your choice. You can look at the details of US versions here or those of UK versions here.
