Analyzing OFX files

Microsoft Money is quite strict on the correct format for OFX (Open Financial eXchange) files. Sometimes you will receive files from the financial institution which do not import into your MS Money file, and it is not clear what the problem is. These problems could cause unexpected crashes or freezing in the account register.

One way of determining whether the problem is with the OFX file, is to put it into the OFX Analyzer tool that Microsoft created which will validate the conformance of the file to the standard used.

For each version of Money, up until Money 2005, Microsoft produced a separate download, after this there is a combined one.

Typical problems with OFX include the bank or financial institution not expaning ampersand (&) characters correctly, as these should be specified as & in the file.
