Purchasing Money Plus outside of the US or Japan

Note. Microsoft Money was withdrawn from sale on 30 June 2009. It is no longer possible to purchase it through online download.

A common question that I have been asked is how to obtain a copy of Money Plus if you don't live in Japan or the US. Typically users from the UK, Canada and other regions may wish to do this (especially as there is no release of these versions in those countries). It is possible for anyone to use the trial version.

Places such as Amazon USA do not ship Microsoft Money or other software outside of the US, and so it can be difficult to get hold of in a boxed form. In addition, Microsoft is moving away from boxed editions to a downloadable-only distribution mechanism.

Fortunately, Money Plus comes as a online downloadable option from certain retailers. I have put some links to the various products below.

You can order directly through these links - you'll be asked for billing information such as the credit card number. Normally you are required to live in the US to purchase the software, however first try your local details. If that fails to work, you may be able to get around it by using a US address** (even if you don't live there). The software is delivered as a digital download, so shipping is not an issue, but make sure you don't select any option for physical media, if offered as you can't get this delivered.

To download Microsoft Money Plus, you'll need an online store. Click on one of the links below.

The above store accepts Visa, MasterCard/EuroCard, Discover, American Express, Diner's Club, JCB, and check cards or ATM cards, so long as they are connected with one of the major credit card companies listed above.

They also accept PayPal, Checks, Money Orders and Wire Transfers. If you choose to pay by PayPal, you will be redirected to the PayPal site as part of the order submission process. If you choose to pay by Check, Money Order or Wire Transfer select the appropriate payment method on the payment page, and directions will be provided to you after you have fully submitted your order.

Important Notes

1. I would strongly advise against Money Plus Essentials for download, as it links directly into US banks and is not really a product that can be used outside of the US. Therefore I have not included it above.
2. I have used an online purchase for my copy of Money Plus.
3. Really important! - Money Plus (US) will not directly convert versions from other regions such as UK or France. You will need to use QIF export/import (Article 28) in this case. Canadian users may not be affected by this, but check with the trial version first.

5. Some (but not all) credit cards might not be accepted as being non-US. In these cases, I would suggest, if you can, another card. For example one MVP commented that a particular Visa (not all Visa cards) didn't work, but his Amex did.
