Does Microsoft Money run on Windows Vista

It should do. I have seen or tried all versions from Money 2000 to Money 2008 (Money Plus) on Vista (32 bit), and these all appear to work. In addition I have had reports that Money 2002 runs correctly on the 64 bit version of Vista. Money Plus 2008 lists Vista on its system requirements (FAQ Article 489).

Below is a screenshot of Money 2000 on an early vista beta - click on it to see a larger image. My main machine, runs Vista Ultimate edition, and I have used both Microsoft Money 2006 and Money for the Pocket PC 2006, and now Microsoft Money Plus and Ultrasoft Money for the Pocket PC. I've not experienced any (major) issues. Just one with the framing of the window.

Windows Vista and Microsoft MoneyDuring the Vista beta, there were some issues when trying to open the sample.mny file from Money 2000 (in that it constantly wanted to compact the file), but a clean file appeared to work. There are probably some issues that are lurking out there, but the basic tests appeared okay.

It is useful to note that if you run Microsoft Money 2005, then it tries to install an update when you first start it up. If this doesn't install, then you should right click the Microsoft Money program off the Start Menu, and select the 'Run as administrator' option. This allows the update to install, after which, the program can be run normally (also described in FAQ Article 463).

Running Money 2005 to update itself in Windows Vista

You may find that if you have some of the older versions of Money, you may need to run it in 'compatibility mode'. It is worth trying this if you can't get your version running. To do this, see FAQ Article 514.

Service pack 1 for Money 2007 (FAQ Article 444) was released to address some of the Vista issues with Money 2007 (but see also FAQ Article 448). Service pack 2 for Money 2007 (FAQ Article 458) was released in January 2007 to fix this.

There was also a bug with the download of OFX statements and Money 2005. This should have been fixed when the RTM version of Vista was released (FAQ Article 459).

A matrix showing the Windows operating systems and Microsoft Money versions can be found at FAQ Article 526.
